(January 4,1643-March 20, 1727)

Childhood
Born on January 4, 1643 in Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, 3 months after his father had died. Newton was not expected to live a day after he was born because he was born premature, but he ended up living for 84 years.
When Isaac was three his mother got remarried, leaving young Isaac with his grandmother.
Isaac disliked his stepfather and became angry with his because se married him. Isaac even threatened to burn his mother and stepfather’s house in an act of his anger.
From the age of twelve to seventeen, Isaac attended The King’s School, Grantham, but was removed form school in October 1659 when his mother had lost her second husband.Isaac went home and helped his mother by farming, but Isaac hated farming more than anything, but one of his professors convinced Isaac’s mother to send him back to school so he could complete his education.
A school bully had pushed Isaac to become the top rank student. The psychologist at King’s School said that he was fairly certain that Isaac suffered from Asperger syndrome. In June 1661 Isaac was admitted to Trinity College, Cambridge as a sizar (a work-study role). The teachings of the colleges were based on Aristotle’s teachings, even though Isaac preferred the more advanced ideas of modern philosopher like Descartes, and astronomers like Galileo and Kepler.
While the university was closed Isaac still studied at his home in Woolsthorpe. He worked on developing his theories in calculus and, optics, and the law of gravitation. After Newton had received his degree the university was temporarily closed because of the Great Plague.
Isaac Newton was an English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist, and theologian.

Newton’s Discoveries-

  • Newton discovered a binomial theorem that later become a mathematical theory that became infinitesimal calculus.
  • Newton also discovered and created the 3 laws od motion-
  1. An object will remain at rest or moving in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force
  2. When force is applied to an object it will accelerate (Force= mass x acceleration F=MA)
  3. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
  • The Reflecting Telescope- proved colors were a characteristic of light by having 2 telescope prisms. Only one would show all of the colors, but when another is added the light turns white again.
